Tag Archives: Gift
Hands up if you love a hamper. For me there is no better gift than a hamper be it a food one, beauty one or a craft one. If you’re stuck for ideas for someone or need to buy a gift for that annoying person who has everything you can guarantee that a hamper will put a smile on the most difficult persons face.
When the Cheese and Wine basket (£29.99) was delivered to my door I couldn’t have been happier, Red wine and cheese are one of my favourite things and I really couldn’t wait to get stuck in. What really surprised me was that the items weren’t just in a cardboard box with a bit of shredded paper, they were in a proper wooden basket with lining and a movable handle which is something that can be reused if you’re making up a hamper as a gift or can be used as a storage basket. I’m actually going to use mine to house two hyacinth plants and give it to someone as a gift at Christmas.
The basket contained the following items:
Wendsleydale with Cranberries 100g
Waxed Cheese with Red Wine and Chilli 100g
Waxed Cheese Double Gloucester 100g
Louis Filipe Cabernet Sauvignon 37.5cl
Beetroot and Orange Chutney by Mrs Bridges 130g
Walkers Highland Oatcakes 280g
Cheese doesn’t last long in my home that’s for sure but if you’re not a glutton like me you will be pleased to know that the items in my basket had really good shelf lives and the cheese best before date wasn’t until January and February 2018. I’m not a huge fan of oatcakes I’ll be completely honest but I found that when topped with the cheese and chutney the Walkers ones were not as dry as oatcakes I’ve had in the past.
You can see the items in more details in my video below.

Since taking on my allotment a couple of weeks ago I have spent a small fortune on beautiful seeds, planters and equipment to make my garden look the best that it possibly can. Choosing beautiful things for a garden is not an easy task as there is so much choice available whether you are buying for yourself or for a gift.
I know a lot of my friends and family will be buying me garden related gifts for Christmas and Birthdays for the foreseeable future and I myself will be buying token gifts for some of my new gardening friends. When you take on an allotment you also take on a whole new community of friends who are always eager to lend a helping hand or offer advice and it can be nice sometimes to say thank you for all of the help.
I’ve put together this little guide featuring some of my favourite items available at the time of writing which I hope will provide some inspiration when you need the perfect gift for a gardener not just at Christmas time but any time.
Backdoorshoes are a pretty awesome product and perfect for leaving at our back door as the name suggests or even leaving in your shed when you pop to the allotment. The shoes are very lightweight at only 200g a pair, waterproof and machine washable which is great when you’re working in muddy conditions. Ladies shoes are available in UK Sizes 3-8, Mens shoes available in UK Sizes 8-13.
I bought a similar Bee and Bug house for my Aunts birthday in October, I love the idea of this house from Greenhouse Sensation as it attracts solitary bees which will pollinate plants, ladybirds and lacewings which will prey on garden pests like aphids and red spider mite. As a gardener who grows flowers and vegetables and hopes to have chickens in the future I feel this would be a perfect gift for the allotment.
As the weather gets colder there is nothing better to improve a gardeners day than a nice hot flask of soup or coffee. This Orla Kiely flask is perfect for a nice mid morning treat after a hard morning spent digging the garden.
Hands are often the last thing that comes to mind when you think about a gardener but in reality hands are the most important tool a gardener has so it pays to look after the
This handy mug from Heathcote & Ivory contains a cleaning hand wash, hand cream
Enriched with Shea Butter, Vitamin E and Pathenol to nourish hands and help strengthen nails after a rewarding day spent digging and planting and nail brush to remove all traces of dirt from inside of the nails.
Finally we have this hardwearing garden apron that’s full of pockets and pouches, perfect for carrying your tools and trowels while gardening. Available from John Lewis it’s a garden must have in my opinion.
I hope this post has showed you that gardening is not just all about spades and forks, gardening gifts can be quirky, fun, useful and pretty so don’t be afraid to buy an awesome gift for the gardener in your life. They will love it!
Disclaimer: I wasn’t asked to talk about any of the brands or products in this post, I did it because I love them.

When I was approached about an initiative on behalf of The Halifax bank which aimed to give people a little bit extra this Christmas by allowing you to purchase an extra special gift for someone close to you I jumped at the opportunity.
David has been a rock for me this past year, supporting my decision to defer my degree at university so I could spend more time looking after Arthur, allowing me time on an evening to work on my blog and spending time looking after Arthur and Lucie so I could work/cook/take time out for myself.
David isn’t materialistic at all unlike me which does often make it difficult to find good gifts to buy for him, after a lot of web browsing I decided to purchase two items that I knew would be appreciated and used. The first item was a Griffin Survivor military tested iphone case which cost £14.99, David has a bad habit of dropping/sitting on/letting Arthur play with his phone so I thought this would be a perfect choice for him as it offers full protection for phones. The case has a really rugged look about it is and has a shatter-resistant polycarbonate frame clad shock absorbing silicone. There is a built-in screen protector which seals the screen from the outside environment meaning that should David be caught in a sandstorm, rain or wind his phone should be protected.
The second item was something that I’d’d actually heard David mention that he wanted on a few occasions which was a small MP3 player that he could use whilst running, he has specified on a few occasions that he didn’t want an apple product so that made my decision harder as I only really have knowledge of apple products.
I spotted the SanDisk Sansa clip MP3 player £34.39 on Amazon and it sounded just perfect, a FM radio, long-life battery, expandable memory card slot where you can add a pre-loaded microSD. The MP3 player is really small and could fit in your hand/pocket or be clipped to an item of clothing or even your cap if you wanted to.
David was so surprised to find this on Christmas morning and apparently he had been looking at this exact model himself so I obviously have good MP3 searching skills!
I would like to thank Halifax bank for allowing me the opportunity to give a little extra on Christmas Day, the two items that I gifted were really appreciated.
*I received an Amazon gift voucher to purchase the items listed in this review. All words, experiences and opinions are entirely my own.*
I spoke about the amazing babywearing bag I got from Chunkle-Munkle in a previous post and mentioned that because I was so impressed with the craftsmanship I decided to order Arthur a Keepsake dragon, this is it.
All of the items used to make the dragon were worn by Arthur in his first couple of months and have great sentimental meaning to me especially the first outfit he ever wore which makes up the dragons ears, arms and middle panel in the head.
I sent Sarah a box of Arthur’s clothing and she selected all of the cowboy themed outfits which I was really pleased about as they were my favourites.
I’m actually really sad that I didn’t keep enough of Lucie’s clothes to have one made as it would have been a lovely gift to give her when she gets older.
If you are looking for a present idea for a new mum I think a Chunkle-Munkle gift voucher would be perfect! I’m currently considering having a cosy toes set made for my pram if Sarah has a slot for me, I love her work so much.
Today’s selection of Christmas Gifts are from Escentual.com who offer a huge range of items and worldwide shipping which is great for non UK readers. As always I have included a wide selection of items to suit all budgets and all stocking fillers are under £20.
This is a gift I know my mother would appreciate and as a mother myself I can’t think of anything better to find under the Christmas tree!
