Giving Extra To Someone Special

When I was approached about an initiative on behalf of The Halifax bank which aimed to give people a little bit extra this Christmas by allowing you to purchase an extra special gift for someone close to you I jumped at the opportunity.

David has been a rock for me this past year, supporting my decision to defer my degree at university so I could spend more time looking after Arthur, allowing me time on an evening to work on my blog and spending time looking after Arthur and Lucie so I could work/cook/take time out for myself.

David isn’t materialistic at all unlike me which does often make it difficult to find good gifts to buy for him, after a lot of web browsing I decided to purchase two items that I knew would be appreciated and used.  The first item was a Griffin Survivor military tested iphone case which cost £14.99, David has a bad habit of dropping/sitting on/letting Arthur play with his phone so I thought this would be a perfect choice for him as it offers full protection for phones.  The case has a really rugged look about it is and has a shatter-resistant polycarbonate frame clad shock absorbing silicone.   There is a built-in screen protector which seals the screen from the outside environment meaning that should David be caught in a sandstorm, rain or wind his phone should be protected.

phone case

The second item was something that I’d’d actually heard David mention that he wanted on a few occasions which was a small MP3 player that he could use whilst running, he has specified on a few occasions that he didn’t want an apple product so that made my decision harder as I only really have knowledge of apple products.

I spotted the SanDisk Sansa clip MP3 player £34.39 on Amazon and it sounded just perfect, a FM radio, long-life battery, expandable memory card slot where you can add a pre-loaded microSD.  The MP3 player is really small and could fit in your hand/pocket or be clipped to an item of clothing or even your cap if you wanted to.

Christmas Day Sandisk mp3 player

David was so surprised to find this on Christmas morning and apparently he had been looking at this exact model himself so I obviously have good MP3 searching skills!

I would like to thank Halifax bank for allowing me the opportunity to give a little extra on Christmas Day, the two items that I gifted were really appreciated.

*I received an Amazon gift voucher to purchase the items listed in this review.  All words, experiences and opinions are entirely my own.*

25 Days To Go – Baby On A Budget

With only 25 days until my due date the end is in sight! Back in November I wrote a post containing all of my purchases so far which came to the grand total of £140.04.  I had originally said I didn’t want to spend more than £300 on this baby, people said it wasn’t possible, in fact no one I spoke to said I would be able to do it!

As of today which is the 5th February my total spend is at £265.24 I do however have money put aside for a second hand cot and new mattress which will take me to just over £340  however that figure is still subject to change! If I manage to sell some of my smaller baby clothes and Moses basket and stand I could actually bring that total down!

I would imagine that readers will want to know what I spent my money on? I will do a breakdown below of all of my purchases.

1 Angelcare monitor purchased full price from Amazon ( using a mixture of Amazon vouchers and gift cards I paid £24 instead of £99)

Prince Lionheart bear (musical slumber bear) from eBay

1 Baby Bath gifted

7 hooded towels gifted from parents and purchased by myself from Ikea

Organic and Paraben free bathing toiletries all purchased using my boots points

I know I’ve probably missed lots of items off my list and I do apologise for that, I’m also waiting for some purchases to arrive so I have not included them in this breakdown, I have however included the amount spent .  I think we’re finally sorted now and all we are waiting for is for baby to make an appearance.  Unfortunately this pregnancy has not been as straight forward as it was when I had my daughter, I’ve developed SPD which has limited my mobility in the last couple of months making me feel really miserable!  Hopefully the next baby post you get to read from me will be featuring the little guy himself!

Dear Santa….

Dear Santa, It’s been one hell of a year!  Not only did I move away from my friends and family but I also found out that I’m going to have another baby early 2013!  I really think I’m due some extra special presents this year if you please?  The first gift I would like is not actually for myself but happiness and no more heartache for any of my friends and family if you please?  Now I have my selfless gift out of the way we can get to the good stuff!

I’m a huge fan of Agatha Christie and Poirot is probably my all time favourite series so I would be very grateful Santa if you could arrange for The Complete Collection(£60.49 from Amazon) to be wrapped and placed under the Christmas tree for me this year!

This DVD collection offers 4598 minutes of viewing pleasure and includes all 65 episodes from series 1 to 12.

Nars brushes

This Travel Brush set from NARS (£55.00 Space NK) would be perfect for me to take to France for our winter holiday, My beauty items always seem to take up half of my case and I know having this handy little set would allow more room for French beauty buys.

living dead doll

I’ve collected Living Dead Dolls for a number of years now and would love to add this ‘Death’ doll from The Four Horsemen of The Apocalypse Collection (£19.99 Forbidden Planet) to my collection of dolls.

My skin is currently loving everything from the Eau Thermale Avene range, the face creams are keeping my skin hydrated and soothed from the wintry winds.  I have a love hate relationship with facial masks as they tend to dry my skin out very badly so I’m keeping my fingers crossed that this Soothing Moisture Mask (£11.50 Boots) will do wonders for my skin.

In my opinion it’s not Christmas without a new pair of slippers and these Per Una Cable Knit slippers (£15.00 M&S) really fit the bill.  I would usually buy new PJs for Christmas eve but I don’t really want to be buying any new maternity clothes so slippers will just have to do.

laura mercier

After spraying myself with this Laura Mercier Fresh Fig Eau de Toilette 50ml (£41.50 John Lewis) it was love at first scent!  The fragrance lasted on my skin for the whole day and didn’t bring on any of the nasty headaches I often get when trying new perfume.  I would be so grateful to receive this on Christmas day!

I actually own enough bags but I couldn’t resist asking for this Skull Studded shopper (£63.75 from whats about town).  I love this bag so much and it will be ideal for shopping trips and uni meaning that it definitely deserves a place on my list.

I love scented products especially candles and this Fresh Linen and Jasmine candle from Laura Ashley (£9.80) sounds like it will offer a really ambient aroma.

This Durbarry Fur Headband (£20.00) will be perfect for my skiing holiday in France, my head often gets far too hot in a hat but my ears are always cold therefore this is the perfect solution.

Deep Steep

I love nothing better than having a long soak in the bath, showers just don’t do it for me at all.  This Tangerine and Melon Bubble Bath from Deep Steep (£9.95 from Feel Unique) contains no nasties or artificial ingredients and to be honest I can’t think of anything better at the moment than laying in a nice bubble bath with a good book!

So Santa if you wouldn’t mind bringing me one or two of these gifts you would make me one happy lady!

Lots of Love (I’ll leave you some nice treats on Christmas Eve)

1st Year of Blogging

I’m such a terrible blogger, my blog turned 1 at the beginning of the month and I didn’t even realise!  (I’ve been pretty busy)
