Day to Night Makeup for Christmas

With the party season fast approaching I thought it might be a good idea to show you one of my favourite day to night makeup products, something simple that can be worn as it is for work or Christmas shopping and enhanced for an evening out.

Wouldn’t it be lovely if we all had makeup artists on hand like the celebrities do? It might surprise you to know that the likes of Beyonce, Zoe Saldana, Taylor Swift and more, love their penny-pinching beauty must-haves just the same as you and I and I’ve actually used some of their favourite products in my look.

drugstore-makeup-look

So how do you go from tired mum to ready to party? I’ve used some of my personal favourites plus the favourites of Gigi Hadid, Taylor Swift and Kim Kardashian.

Celebrity Drugstore makeup

My base (not featured) is the Make-up Forever Velvet Mat (£29) in Vanilla which is a favourite of Taylor Swift, I really do like this foundation as it’s medium to high coverage and can be built up to cover blemishes of which I have many.

Max factor Creme Puff (£6.99) for me is iconic, my grandmother used to use it and as soon as I open the lid the smell transports me to my childhood.  It’s a real versatile product as it can be worn alone, with moisturiser or over foundation for a flawless finish.

The Makeup Revolution Iconic Pro 2 palette (£6.99) is one of my favourite eyeshadow palettes for a day to night look. The eyeshadow is highly pigmented and there is a great mix of matte and glitter shades meaning you can really make your eyes sparkle with some glitter once your night is about to start.

After years of trial and error with eyebrow pencils I’ve found one that I love by Nyx.  The micro brow pencil in Espresso (£7) is perfect for filling in your brows, it doesn’t have a red pigment in it like some dark brown pencils do and the really thin pencil means that even the most heavy handed person will fail to go wrong when filling in their brows.

If it’s good enough for Gigi Hadid it’s good enough for me! Diorshow iconic curl mascara in Black (£25) has been a favourite of mine for years, I find it gives the perfect falsh lash effect without the need for falsh lashes.  3 coats is usually enough for my lashes and I get a full day and night of wear with no flaking.

Finally for the lips I used a favourite of Kim Kardashian, the Maybelline colour sensational lipstick (£3.97).  I’m not a fan of beige like Ms Kardashian, I prefer a red, my current favourite being ravishing rose, what I really love about this lipstick is you can blot it on a tissue to get a really subtle red which suits all or you can wear it as it’s supposed to be – daring and ready for sipping those Christmqas cocktails.

Are any of my celebrity drugstore favourites a favourite of yours?

A sensual dry down of woods, vetiver and vanilla ensure a sensual lasting impression.

Top notes of Calabrian bergamot and Sicilian lemons, enriched with refined freshness by vibrant notes of cardamom and ginger. Refined, solar aromatic heart notes of myrtle and sagebush with hints of Neroli and intense base notes heighten the unmistakable uniqueness of Colonia Intensa.

A leather note, tactile, luminous and male, enclosed by vibrant spicy, smoky notes of cedar, guaiac and patchouli. Deep notes of Benzoin and Musk exalt the persistence of this refined harmony.

Philip Kingsley introduces another set from the Jet Set family aimed at clients experiencing flaking or itching scalps.

Whether the condition is mild or persistent this kit will help keep flaking at bay whilst soothing irritated scalps and leaving hair in tip top condition.

Who wouldn’t love to find a Dior gift under the tree on Christmas morning?  The problem I find with the Palettes is that they are just too beautiful to use

Dior Carnet de Bal palette (£57.15)

Dior has transformed the Carnet de Bal, the dance card in which dancers in the past would write down the name of their partner, into an essential beauty accessory.

This palette, sealed with a black eyeliner like a genuine Carnet de Bal, unveils a duo of luminous pearlescent platinum and gold eye shadows that appear to be sumptuously embroidered and two glosses.

Coach Poppy Eau de Parfum Gift Set 50ml (£24.50)

Made up of ultra-feminine and uplifting notes, Poppy dazzles the senses. A playful opening of cucumber, mandarin and freesia is the perfect complement to a heart of voluptuous flora, including gardenia, rose and jasmine. An added touch of creme brulee together with a plush dry down of woods, vanilla and whipped marshmallow makes for a decadent scent.

Begin your luxurious Poppy ritual by smoothing the Coach Poppy body lotion all over the body for soft, smoothed skin, before spraying the happy-go-lucky Poppy eau de parfum over the top of this fragrant base.

Treat Yourself

I don’t know about you but when Christmas comes and I’m faced with all of the fabulous items that I may or may not get I always pick one luxury present for myself that I know I won’t be finding in my stocking or under the Christmas Tree, my chosen item is a shimmer powder which will see me throughout the party season and ensure I don’t leave the house without a shimmer!

Guerlain Liu Perfumed Shimmer Powder (£45.45)

The star product of the Guerlain Liu Christmas collection, this showstopping, limited edition loose powder dresses the body with sensuality. Drawing its inspiration from Jacques Guerlain’s iconic Liu Eau de Parfum from the 1920s, this precious beauty ritual softly illuminates the body with a mysterious, refined and festive air.

The black lacquered bottle is a talisman all of its own. Styled in the image of the original Liu perfume bottle, which in turn was inspired by traditional Japanese tea trays, this legendary fragrance is transformed into a desirable objet d’art.

Gently press the atomiser puffer to release a delicate breath of silky powder, iridescent shimmer and the seductive fragrance of aldehydes, roses, vanilla, iris and woody notes. A fascinating and infinitely feminine scent for lasting grace this Christmas.

Face Favourites For October

When I’m at university I leave the house at 5.30am and don’t get home until after 9.15pm so I need my makeup to last all day which is no easy task!  I’ve been trying to keep my daily look quite natural making sure that any imperfections are covered.

I’ve been using the Eau Thermale Avene Skin recovery cream (£12.50) as my daily moisturiser, I find that it does a marvelous job at keeping my eczema and dry patches at bay.  The cream isn’t too rich and does a brilliant job at calming down any red patches, I don’t have to worry about any wind chaffing when I have this on my skin as I know I’m protected.

The Korres evening primrose eye cream (£24.00) is a product I’ve been using for around 3 weeks now.  I had saved up 4 sample size tubes from various beauty boxes so I had enough to give this a fair trial.  My eyelids have been very dry recently and I honestly don’t believe this has been doing my skin any good which is a huge shame as I adore Korres products.  I’m going to finish what I have left in the tubes before I do a full review of the product.

The POREfessional by Benefit (£23.50) has been used religiously for the past 3 months.  A little bit of this product really does go a long way, I don’t seem to have made a dent in my tube and I use it every day.  I don’t think this is a miracle product as I can still see some of my pores when I look in the mirror so don’t go out and buy it expecting it to make your pores vanish.  The primer acts as a great base for my foundation, after use my skin feels silky and matt and any dry patches are hidden.

Nic from Strawberry Blonde Beauty Blog was the person who persuaded me to purchase this product and I’ve been in love ever since.  I’ve been using the Estee Lauder BB cream (£32.00) every day since April of this year and I’m still on the same tube which makes the product excellent value for money in my opinion!

The amount of product you can see above gives me a medium coverage which suits my personal needs.  You may be able to make out a blemish just above my jawline, this was caused by a product reaction (I suffer from these marks quite a lot)  the BB cream gives enough coverage so that marks like this are hidden.

I’ve put my Benefit Brow-zings away while I try to recapture my love for the YSL brow pencil (£19.00) in Dark Brown.  I love how easy this product is to apply, with a freshly sharpened pencil you can actually draw individual hairs in if you have time, the pencil is long lasting and has no red in the colour which is a huge hate of mine.

The Dior Crayon Khol Pencil (£16.00) seems to last me forever even with daily use!  The pencil is long lasting and I actually find once it’s on it takes a bit of work to remove it especially when it’s been on the eyes all day.

At the moment I’m wearing either Dior Extase or Dior Iconic mascara (£23.00).  Both mascaras  can be built up to give a false lash effect but I find two coats give me enough coverage for a daytime look.

Bella Bamba by Benefit (£23.50) is my final product.  I do find Benefit products expensive but the blushers seem to last me for ages, when I buy one I know it will probably last me 12 months even with daily use.  The blusher is very pigmented meaning a little goes a long way, the blush can be built up for an evening look if required.

There you have it my finished look, I think it looks really natural and I love the fact that it stays on my face until I take it off when I finish university.
