14 Things For 2014

My good friend Kate recently told me about a blogging linky she was taking part in called 14 things for 2014 which I suppose is a personal bucket list of things you would like to achieve during the year, this isn’t something I would usually take part in as I don’t usually make resolutions, bucket lists etc I’m just terrible when it comes to sticking to something as you will know if you are a regular reader.

I’ve decided that 2014 is the year for change so I’ve decided to also participate, I have no idea if I will achieve any of the things on my list but I’m determined to give it a good go!  If you fancy taking part yourself head over to The Glambulance for all of the details.

1) Learn how to use my Cameras.

I own a Nikon D80 DSLR which I have no idea how to use correctly, I know that one of my lenses is a macro and the other is a wide zoom lens but that’s about it.  It was a very expensive Christmas present so I should really be ashamed that I haven’t made more of an effort to use it.

My Nikon Coolpix P500 is a little easier for me to use but only if it’s on Automatic mode, I’m planning on using this camera to learn the basic manual settings before using my DSLR.

My Canon Powershot SX240 was purchased so I could practice using the manual settings but like my Coolpix I find it easier to stick it on manual then complain that my photos look rubbish so 2014 is the year that I learn how to use my cameras and learn how to take a good photo.

2) Get Published

Last year I decided that I wanted to write a couple of cooking books and a selection of childrens books, I have lots of scribbled notes but nothing that makes any sort of sense so by the end of 2014 I would like to have at least 1 book published.

3) Vlog at least once a week

My Youtube channel has been neglected, I often film and the editing takes me so long as I don’t have the right software on my laptop that I often give up.  I would love to vlog at least once a week and be able to edit the videos myself without relying on other people to do it for me.

4) Move House

When we decided to relocate to Warwickshire it was a bit of a rushed decision as we needed to get down here before the new school term started so we rented a 2 bedroom apartment as we knew Arthur would share with for at least the first 6 months.  Our lease was up in August 2013 and as we love living here we decided to keep it on for a further 6 months as no other property in town could offer the same huge rooms that we have for the price we were paying.  I would love to be able to find a 3 bedroom property with office space, an extra large living area and a good sized kitchen and bathroom before the end of the year.  I think Arthur would sleep better in his own room as he seems to be quite a restless sleeper at night and the slightest noise has him stirring in his sleep.

5) Go Camping

Lucie was 3 when we took our first camping trip, she was an absolute nightmare but we had a fantastic time, took lots of photographs and made memories.  I would love to take a family camping trip this year even if it will be a disaster and no one will get a wink of sleep.

6) Donate Blood

I have been a blood donor since the age of 20 and this year I aim to make it to each eligible donation session.

7) Eat Clean

I eat far too much crap and need to cut out the fizzy drinks, crisps and milk chocolate.  I know that if my diet improves my health will too and at the moment I’m really suffering with my gastro illnesses.

8) Spend an hour a day as a family without electronic gadgets

For the past couple of years I don’t think we have spent a whole hour just talking as a family, someone is either sat in front of the TV, has an ipad in their hand, a laptop on their lap or a mobile phone in their hand.  I would love to spend an hour a day talking, eating, playing board games or doing a craft.

9) Have a wardrobe clearout

I am a hoarder when it comes to clothes, shoes and handbags and I really don’t have the space for it all.  I currently have 3 double wardrobes and 2 sets of drawers yet I wear a capsule wardrobe which consists of around 12 items of clothing so my aim is to donate a bag of items per month to charity.

10) Use up current beauty products

I have a double wardrobe sized cupboard in my bedroom which is filled from top to bottom with skincare, shampoo, bath products and makeup.  I would love to cut this down by half by the end of the year.

11) Read a book a week

Since Arthur came along I’ve read very few books and my to read pile is not getting any smaller.  I would love to downsize my stash of books as not all of them are keepers, I do have a lot of books on the kindle app on my ipad and iphone so hopefully this challenge will not be too hard to complete.

12) Do more freelance work

2013 was a good year for writing opportunities both on my blog and other sources, I would love to take on more freelance work and maybe do some guest posts for other bloggers to get some further writing experience.

13) Shop Locally

Towards the end of 2013 I decided to make more of an effort to use the shops that were local to me, I really enjoyed doing this and not only did I feel better about where my items were coming from I felt good that I was supporting local businesses.

14) Make Memories

My final goal is to make special memories with my children, Arthur will be 1 this year and Lucie will be 14 and although we do try to do fun things as a family we really could and should make more of an effort.  My aim is to do at least 1 fun thing a month, take lots of photographs and possibly blog about it so that they can look back on our adventures in years to come.

So that’s my 14 things, I hope I manage to do at least one of these things but if I can accomplish all 14 that would be amazing.
